How to Handle Theme Changes After Site Speed-Up
How to Handle Theme Changes After Site Speed-Up
It depends on the type of changes you make. Not all modifications to the original theme will automatically sync to the duplicated (optimized) theme.
Below is a clarification of how different types of changes are handled:
Changes That Do Not Depend on the Theme (Automatically Remain Effective)
Content or resource-based optimizations are applied directly to your store’s data and are not tied to a specific theme. These changes remain effective regardless of theme duplication or switching, including:
- Image Compression
Applied directly to the image files. - Image ALT Text
Stored in product or media metadata. - Meta Titles and Meta Descriptions
Saved in the product or page SEO settings.
These optimizations continue to apply across all themes without additional action.
Theme-Based Changes (Do Not Sync Automatically)
Modifications made directly to the theme structure will not automatically transfer to a duplicated or newly created theme. These include:
- Changes to template files (Liquid files, sections, snippets)
- Modifications to CSS, JavaScript, or other theme assets
- Layout or block adjustments made in the theme editor
- App scripts or custom code injected into the theme
These changes must be manually re-applied or reconfigured in the duplicated theme.
Important Notes:
If you use third-party apps that inject scripts or code into your theme, you may need to reconfigure those apps after duplicating or switching themes to ensure proper functionality.
